Kissena Park, a historic site!

Central Railroad of Long Island
At this location, the Central Railroad of Long Island passed through what is now Kissena Park. It was built by Alexander T. Stewart in 1872 to provide a means of travel from Garden City to New York. It was consolidated with the Long Island Railroad in 1876 by Conrad Poppenhusen.  The Flushing to Creedmoor portion was abandoned in 1879.
